At the International Institute
for Metabolic Health
we believe it's a big ask expecting to stay healthy without keeping
yourself fit. It's an even bigger ask expecting to get better by having some
one do something to you; sooner or later you have to do something to
yourself.
THE EPIDEMIC
Across the Western world there is an
epidemic of metabolic dysfunction.
Much of this dysfunction is
personally generated. In its early stages the dysfunction is not a medical problem, it's a health and fitness
problem. Without putting too fine a point on it, most people with metabolic
dysfunction are neither fit nor healthy.
That's the problem.
The solution - become fitter and
healthier.
At the International Institute
for Metabolic Health
we'll show you how to do that.
OUR
AIM
The International Institute
for Metabolic Health is
dedicated to reducing the impact of metabolic dysfunction in the community by
distributing a range of metabolic health-promoting
products, services and books that assist people to avoid metabolic
dysfunction, or, if they have it, restore poor function to good.
OUR
PHILOSOPHY
Our guiding philosophy comes from the US Surgeon General, who
in 1979 said; 'You, the individual can do more for your own health and
wellbeing than any doctor, any hospital, any drug, any exotic medical
advice.'
We also agree with Lao Tzu, who amongst other things is
credited with saying; -
'Anticipate the difficult by managing the easy', 'a journey
of a thousand miles begins with a single step', and 'a big problem could
have been solved easily when it was a small problem.'
THE
SYMPTOMS OF METABOLIC DYSFUNCTION
The symptoms metabolic dysfunction are well known:
▪ being more than 10Kg over weight
▪ lack of energy
▪ chronic fatigue
▪ poor sleep
▪ snoring and sleep apnoea
▪ elevated blood pressure
▪ elevated blood glucose
▪ elevated blood fats
▪ elevated cholesterol
▪ elevated homocysteine
▪ irritable gut
▪ reflux
▪ depression
▪ breathlessness
▪ ...
It is not in the nature of the human condition to have to put
up with these symptoms and the dysfunctions that they represent.
They're nature's
way of telling you to get back into better shape. Ignore them at your peril
FITNESS
One of the keys to overcoming metabolic dysfunction is to
increase your level of fitness. If you click on the
fitness link on the left hand side of the page you'll be taken
through to one of the most comprehensive fitness sites on the internet.
We'll show you how to improve and monitor your fitness.

The second key to overcoming metabolic dysfunction is
improving your diet.
Most people with metabolic
dysfunction don't eat enough - of the right food at the right time. They eat
too much of some foods and not enough of others.
The
people of the Western world are eating too much fat, flour and sugar. That's
why we're getting fatter. They're suffering from over-nutrition.
At the same time they're starving on full stomachs, not
getting enough of the essential nutrients to sustain optimal function.
If you click on the diet link you'll be taken through to the
Hourglass Diet, designed specifically to assist people to restore poor
metabolic function to good.
NUTRACEUTICALS
As part of healthy eating we know the
value of nutrient rich diet. Too many of the foods we eat are lacking in
essential nutrition.
We're eating
too little food containing the vitamins, minerals and other essential
nutrients which play an important role in building and maintaining good
health.
The International Institute for Metabolic Health
promotes and sells a range of nutraceuticals to lower your
blood pressure, lower your
cholesterol, regulate your
blood glucose and
improve metabolic health in general.
STRESS
The body is an ecosystem, all systems are inter-related and
co-dependent. For instance there's a high and positive correlation between
what's going on inside your head and what's going on in the other major body
systems. It's called the psycho-somatic relationship. One of the most common
signs of stress is your blood pressure goes up.
To effectively manage metabolic dysfunction you'll need a
stress management program. We'll teach you how to relax in a way that your
metabolic system starts to respond positively.
Depression
It is not widely known that aspects of depression are
metabolically generated. If you don't get enough vigorous physical
activity or enough of the essential nutrients you can feel depressed.
One of the benefits of our metabolic fitness program is that
you'll feel better, you'll have enhanced feelings of wellbeing.

MONITORING METABOLIC DYSFUNCTION
There are a number of ways you can monitor your metabolic
health.
▪ aerobic fitness
▪ body fat
▪ blood pressure
▪ blood analysis
- insulin
- glucose
- cholesterol
- triglycerides
- Homocystein
- c-reactive protein
Some of these tests you can do yourself. Others require the
help of your pathologist.
We'll show you how to interpret the results of these tests
and what you can do to improve your health, fitness and wellbeing.
METABOLIC DEFRAG
If you've ever watched your computer defrag you'll have some
sort of an idea of what happens to your body when you embark on a metabolic
health, fitness and wellbeing program.
Your body works better. You feel better. You have more energy
and vitality. Your vital signs return to normal. Metabolic function is
restored to normal.
RESEARCH
At the International Institute
for Metabolic Health
we're focused on bringing you information on the latest research into ways
in which poor metabolic function can be restored to good.
Our research
underpins the programs, products and services we recommend to our clients.
At all times the over-riding objective is to improve metabolic function, not
to mask the symptoms of poor function.
JUNK
MEDICINE
At the International Institute for Metabolic Fitness we do not believe that
junk medicine is the best course to take if you want to improve your health.
Junk medicine involves the prescription of pharmaceuticals to mask the
symptom without restoring poor metabolic function to good. It leads to
poorer health. We think you can do better than that.
You know it's junk medicine. Depression is not caused by a
lack of Zoloft; high blood pressure is not caused by a lack of Avpro; an
elevated cholesterol level is not caused by a lack of Lipitor; high blood
glucose is not caused by a lack of Diabex; a headache is not caused by a
lack of Panadol; reflux is not caused by a lack of Mylantin any more than
piles are caused by a lack of Anusol!
INSPIRED AND
MOTIVATED TO BE FIT AND HEALTHY
Our inspiration is the hurdler, symbolic of the
hurdles you're going to have to cross if you're to restore poor metabolic
health to good.
Here at the
International Institute for Metabolic Fitness we're
optimistic that you can do this. Whilst it won't happen over night, there is
a high likelihood that you'll soon be on the way to better health.
It is likely that the first hurdle will be the
hardest to cross.
You know what it's like. You get a rush of blood the
the head and decide you'll get yourself fit and then find a few days, weeks
or months later that you've fallen into a screaming heap. Things have got
worse, not better. You've got fatter, not fitter. You can't sleep. You lack
energy and vitality, the headaches are coming back, you've come down with a
cold ...
We believe you can overcome the first and
succeeding hurdles if you can
reset your lifestyle goals, develop a strategy, find people who'll support you and galvanize
yourself into action. After that it's one leg at a time.
We can't over-emphasize the importance of
getting a training partner. A lot of people who improved their health
because they arranged to meet someone with who to exercise.
That's just for starters. It's a fact that fit
and healthy people have enquiring minds that seek out solutions for their
own health and fitness problems. If you go to our
fact sheets,
useful
links and newsletter
pages, or the
Health and Fitness Bookstore,
and if you search the internet, you'll find a wealth of
information about what you need to do more of and eat more of and do less of
and eat less of to keep yourself fit and healthy.

health, fitness, diet and wellbeing.
if you feel you need a disclaimer's protection
this may not be the right site for you.
One of our guiding principles is that the most
important consultation is the one you have with yourself. Health starts with
personal responsibility. Any disclaimer that suggests otherwise does a
greater disservice.
We will provide you with information, products
and services backed up by scientific evidence. In the end you need to decide
whether what we provide is consistent with your own beliefs about health,
fitness and wellbeing. We ask you to check it out.
Naturally
you'll need to be discerning about
any advice you receive, whether it be from your own doctor or people like
us. But don't let that stop you from trying out some of the advice. If
it works it works; if it doesn't, try something else. You'll need to create
your own health and fitness pantheon.
Regrettably, the suburbs of our cities are
littered with the bodies of people who were let down by the medical and
pharmaceutrical industries. Despite repeated visits to the surgery and the
pharmacy their health did not improve. The medications they were prescribed
lulled them into the false sense of security that their health was getting
better. They weren't.
A final word: as a rule, be
circumspect about the advice from
medical charities seeking donations. They're usually fronts for professional
researchers whose time could be more productively spent
supporting people like yourself in doing the things that make them fit and healthy.
